It's building a sustainable future for world famous historic buildings

And it’s the pride in conserving a world famous heritage building. This is what makes a role at the Royal Household so different.

The size, complexity and heritage of our London sites present some fascinating, and often unique, challenges. Like any historical building the Buckingham Palace requires care and attention, and a Reservicing Programme is now underway to ensure that the Palace is fit for purpose for the next 50 years.

Joining our Property Section and working under the supervision of a senior specialist, you’ll advise on various aspects of building conservation and provide a vital interface between our expert in-house team and dedicated Programme Management Office for Reservicing.

As a custodian of our built heritage, you’ll provide your input and advice throughout the Reservicing Programme, from the design to the implementation of each project.

You’ll carry out reviews of design and construction drawings, focusing on any impact to the building fabric at each stage of the programme. And liaising with a variety of internal stakeholders, as well as key external bodies such as Historic England you’ll ensure that all conservation policies and principles are met.

You’ll also procure and record historic building information, incorporating this data into our Building Conservation Management Plans. Whilst ensuring that our existing Conservation Policies are followed alongside Reservicing, you’ll also provide your own input and suggestions for its development.

Protecting a historical building that hosts regular events, houses offices and is also a major tourist attraction open to the public most days of the year – you’ll face complex challenges that will push you.

But you’ll relish the opportunity to use your existing knowledge and passion for heritage buildings to deliver the exceptional.

With a degree in Building Conservation, Architecture, Planning or other relevant discipline, and considerable knowledge and experience in the field of Building Conservation, you’re the expert we need.

You’ve managed and maintained heritage sites before, with particular passion for design and construction for historic buildings, and you'll be looking to take on a role where you can make an impact whilst broadening your experience further.

Knowledgeable of the relevant Planning Legislation, law, Government guidance and practice relating to conservation, you’ll be keen to apply this to a new and unique environment.

You’re an effective communicator and can quickly build positive relationships with colleagues and external contractors alike. It’s important that you’re a good influencer too, able to form strong arguments to help inform, instruct and guide those around you.

Highly organised, you'll be confident managing and prioritising a number of different projects with multiple deadlines.

You’re a logical and innovative problem solver too, able to suggest pragmatic solutions and keep calm under pressure.

Computer literate and with strong administrative skills, you'll be able to use Microsoft tools and CAD software to deliver your varied workload.

What’s more, with a naturally collaborative approach, you'll enjoy working with in-house and contractor teams to deliver the exceptional.
