It's preserving books from the past, for millions to admire today

It's feeling inspired to deliver to the very highest standards, and it's the satisfaction of caring for and presenting one of the world's largest art collections. This is what makes working for Royal Collection Trust so different.

The Royal Library and Royal Archives hold a collection of books, manuscripts and archival material of international significance. Joining the book conservation-restoration team at Windsor Castle, you'll preserve and restore this irreplaceable collection.

Whether you're conserving historic books and manuscripts, producing new bindings and boxes, or helping to prepare displays, you will ensure the collection is preserved and presented at its very best.

You'll also create new items for the Royal Collection and the wider Royal Household.

You'll keep detailed documentation of all treatments and will be a vital point of advice for team members and colleagues, guiding them in bookbinding techniques and sharing your knowledge.

Collaborating with internal colleagues and external parties alike, you will align your work to support Royal Collection Trust's exhibition programme. You will ensure the best environmental conditions for collection pieces, whilst helping millions to admire and learn about their importance.

Knowing you are preserving such a unique and important collection will give you the greatest sense of reward.

With significant experience of hand bookbinding and book restoration, and with outstanding forwarding skills, you're exactly who we're looking for.

A skilled hand craftsperson, competent in gold finishing and edge gilding, you'll already have an in-depth knowledge of the materials and methods used for period binding styles.

Having worked for a library or archives collection before, you'll draw on your knowledge and experience to work independently and with initiative.

Organised in approach and with good project management skills, you'll be adept at managing your time in order to meet deadlines.

An excellent communicator, you'll enjoy engaging with colleagues across our varied and talented team and will be keen to share your knowledge. What's more, your adaptability and problem solving skills will make you a real asset.

You may have professional qualifications but your experience and skillset is of greater importance, alongside a willingness to continually develop your expertise in order to preserve this exceptional collection for future generations.

In return you will be rewarded with a comprehensive benefits package, including 33 days holiday (inclusive of Bank Holidays), a 15% employer contribution pension scheme (with the option for flexibility - to increase contributions or draw down as salary), lunch provided, with training and development, as well as a range of recreational facilities.
