Full time, 5 days a week

As Senior Gardener you will be responsible for the maintenance, conservation and development of the Royal gardens.

You will lead a small team, organising and allocating, and performing daily tasks, with a hands-on approach. This will include lawn maintenance and caring for shrub, herbaceous and rose borders.

Bringing your expert knowledge, you will plan the planting of new shrubberies, bulbs and seasonal flower displays, ensuring that the grounds look their best year-round.

You will also demonstrate your management skills, monitoring Health & Safety on site and overseeing the training and development of the Gardeners.

Above all, you will conserve the garden’s rich biodiversity, and aim for high standards in all that you do.

With a passion for horticulture, backed up with relevant qualifications (such as HND, ND/NVQ 3 or RHS Level 2/3, Chain Saw use, PA1 and PA6A), you’re exactly who we’re looking for.

You will have previous experience carrying out cyclical maintenance for a high quality landscape garden. This means you have excellent knowledge of lawn maintenance, and cultivating a broad range of trees, shrubs and herbaceous plants.

Able to demonstrate a range of horticultural craft skills, you will be well equipped to use the wide range of garden machinery we have here, including rotary machines and large mowers. A full UK driving licence is required and a UK tractor/trailer licence is desirable.

You will also have experience obtaining quotes and managing contractors.

It is a busy environment, so excellent time management and organisation will be an asset to the team.

Working closely with colleagues, and on occasions contractors, will be important, and you'll have an adaptable communication style and a collaborative approach to work. You will also have some supervisory experience and will be keen to develop your skills to effectively lead a small team.

With great pride in your work, you will deliver beautiful results.

In return you will receive a comprehensive benefits package, including 33 days annual leave (inclusive of bank holidays), a 15% employer contribution pension scheme (with the option for flexibility – to increase or draw down as salary). Training and development is encouraged and you will have access to a range of recreational facilities.
