It's knowing you're protecting the community that surrounds you.

It's feeling trusted to deliver to the very highest standards. And it's the pride in protecting an environment of unique historic importance. This is what makes working for the Royal Household exceptional.

Joining the professional and dedicated Fire and Access team at Buckingham Palace, you'll provide a 24/7 fire surveillance service and support all aspects of fire safety across the Royal Household’s entire London estate.

You'll monitor and respond to automatic fire detection systems, and carry out regular fire safety inspections and patrols, as well as acting as first-response in the event of a fire or out-of-hours property alert.

As a visible presence, you'll also support access control at one of our sites, ensuring visitors are authorised and welcomed.

Maintaining schedules for tested equipment will be an important task, and you'll carry out dynamic risk assessments in the event of an incident. You’ll also support the Property section with events, as well as help train the wider organisation on the importance of fire safety.

The breadth of this role will provide opportunities to develop your existing skills, whilst gaining experience and training in new areas, enabling you to deliver a vital service to this unique organisation.

Experience in a similar role is desirable, but not essential, as we will give you any training you need.

It's your willingness to learn new skills, proactive attitude and team-focused approach that will make the real difference.

You’ll have a calm, logical approach to problem solving, and you’ll be able to apply the knowledge you acquire to identify and address fire safety risks across multiple sites.

Interpersonal skills are important too, because you’ll be working closely with a wide range of people.

Ideally trained in first aid, you'll be able to provide support when needed.

Basic IT skills are a must, and you may even have experience of computerised fire and/or security monitoring and access control systems, which would be a real advantage.

A full UK driving license is also essential.

Above all, you'll have initiative and a proactive attitude, essential qualities that will enable you to deliver to the highest standards every day.

As a part time Fire Safety and Access Officer, you’ll be guaranteed 1,200 hours per annum, which equates to 100 shifts, but you’ll also be willing and flexible to support the team during busy periods and on an occasional ad hoc basis.
