It's leading the way to deliver the exceptional

It's developing your management style. And it’s joining the team who deliver extraordinary service. This is what makes a career at the Royal Household so different.

Welcoming thousands of tourists every year, and hosting a wide variety of functions and events, the Palace of Holyroodhouse is a busy environment, with new challenges every day.

As Housekeeper, you'll manage many aspects of our housekeeping and hospitality operations. You’ll lead a dedicated team, overseeing the presentation of the Palace, guest hospitality, event support and the conservation care of works of art. From coordinating rotas and linen services, to liaising with contractors and managing budgets and resources, it’s a varied role. And you’ll always ensure that the very highest standards are delivered.

You'll train and guide the team, and alongside driving people's performance, you'll make sure we're also focused on their ongoing development, helping them to reach their full potential. As an additional element to your role, you’ll also act as Event Duty Manager, coordinating teams and managing the delivery of various functions throughout the year.

What’s more, you’ll use your expertise, continually looking to move things forward. Working with colleagues and teams across the palace, and wider organisation, you'll have the opportunity to make an impact, identifying efficiencies and different ways of working.

And as you support others, you'll have exceptional opportunities to grow your own career.

As an expert in your field, with previous management experience within housekeeping, you're committed to the highest standards of housekeeping and presentation and know how to achieve it.

Both your operations and people management capability will make you stand out, and you'll be passionate about developing and motivating those around you.

But we're looking for someone with a strategic mind-set as well, and your ambition and sound business acumen will ensure your success.

You clearly take care and pride in your work, and so aim to deliver great results in all that you do. And you'll be used to evaluating and driving through improvements to service standards in order to stay at the top of the game.

With excellent communication skills, you'll have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with both your team and colleagues.

You may have some events management experience, however this isn’t necessary. Your ability to think on your feet means you’ll be able to adapt in the moment to handle multiple priorities with ease.

And with an organised approach, and excellent IT skills, you'll be able to manage a varied workload, both in the office and on the floor.

Cool and calm under pressure, you can be relied upon to work flexibly and effectively even when things get busy. And your hands-on, practical approach means you'll be confident resolving problems quickly and effectively.

Finally, you'll be keen to push yourself and take on new challenges that will expand your knowledge and skills and drive your team forward.

In return you can look forward to working in a unique and stimulating work environment, and be rewarded with a comprehensive benefits package, including 33 days holiday (inclusive of Bank Holidays) and a 15% employer contribution pension scheme (with the option for flexibility - to increase contributions or draw down as salary). Training and development is encouraged and you will have access to a range of recreational facilities.
