Senior Project Manager, West Wing - Reservicing

Reservicing
Buckingham Palace
Permanent
£50,000 - £60,000 (dependent on experience)
37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday

Buckingham Palace is currently undergoing a ten-year programme of works to overhaul the palace's infrastructure wing-by-wing - including electrical cabling, plumbing and   heating - for the first time since the 1950's. A dedicated in-house Programme   Management Office will oversee the delivery of this project, to ensure the building is fit for purpose for the next 50 years.

Now four years into the Reservicing Programme, you’ll join our expert and well-established Programme Management Office at a key stage as works continue on the Buckingham Palace West Wing, containing the iconic State Rooms. With support from a small, talented team, you’ll lead and manage the portfolio of projects comprising the creation of new lift shafts, lifts and associated works; and new welfare facilities.

Leading the end-to-end delivery of the West Wing Operational Improvements, from planning and procurement to final accounts and handover, you’ll ensure project activities are delivered to schedule, budget and to an exceptional standard, whilst promoting a strong culture of compliance and risk awareness.

Developing an excellent working relationship and lead the Principal Contractors, you’ll act as an enabler to them delivering the Main West Wing Package of works.

You’ll also work closely with the Design Team to resolve outstanding elements of the Stage four design (with a focus on Architectural/Structural) and any site related ‘discovery’ issues which could impact on progress and delivery.

The West Wing is one part of a wider programme of works, and so you'll be relied upon to provide regular and accurate performance reports to our Directors and governance boards.

And working in occupied spaces with boundaries adjacent to other phases of the Reservicing Programme, you’ll be a vital interface with a diverse range of stakeholders, ever mindful that the Royal Household’s calendar of events and operations must continue.

Educated to degree level with a relevant professional qualification and substantial experience of leading multiple, major construction projects from procurement through to handover, you're  exactly who we're looking for.

You're commercially astute and will have prior experience of managing contractors and contracts to agreed targets and terms. Experience of working within historic / listed buildings and working in a secure and live operating environment would also be an advantage.

Expert at managing an end-to-end project lifecycle for complex and major projects, including budget, cost control and contract management, as well as safety, risk and compliance management, you'll have the skills to deliver this unique programme of property challenges.

At your best working as part of a team, you’ll bring great people management and contractor leadership skills.

Genuinely passionate about a customer-driven approach, you’re also experienced at managing diverse stakeholder groups with diplomacy and can quickly build credibility at all levels.

Organised with lots of initiative, you'll manage a varied portfolio of   work, tight programmes, and be able to adapt to changing circumstances and prioritise work/resources with ease.

A logical problem solver with pragmatism, good judgement and decision making capability, you’re able to remain level-headed under pressure, can anticipate issues and find innovative solutions.

Digitally fluent, with analytical skills and an eye for detail, you’ll have a good working knowledge of MS Office, and ideally Aconex.
