It’s preserving an historic collection, for future generations to enjoy

It’s working with a shared and unique purpose, contributing to and caring for one of the world's largest art collections. This is what makes working for Royal Collection Trust so different.

In terms of both quality and diversity, the Horological collection across the Royal residences is outstanding. As well as being in daily use and on display to the public, many of the collection items are unique and historically significant.

Based at our on-site conservation workshop, but with regular travel to other Royal residences, you'll work as part of our small team of talented conservation specialists, overseeing and restoring a vast array of timepieces. And you’ll make sure every item is cared for and restored to the highest standard.

You'll carry out a wide-range of conservation activities. You’ll undertake detailed condition surveys, before employing a range of techniques to best conserve each item.

You’ll also regularly check clocks in situ to maintain and keep items in the best working order.

The maintenance and upkeep of the workshop, specialist tools and equipment, as well as H&S requirements will fall into your remit.

And you’ll also keep our expanding online collection database up-to-date with the treatment and movement of Horological items.

Your expertise will be relied upon. Collaborating with colleagues across the organisation, you'll provide advice and guidance to ensure exceptional standards of collections care and conservation at all times.

Balancing multiple projects at any one time will be a challenge. Yet preserving a collection that’s on display and appreciated by thousands every year, will inspire you to achieve the highest standards in all you do.

With a professional qualification in Horology, and significant experience delivering conservation-restoration treatments, you’re the expert we’re looking for.

You’ll have proven practical experience dealing with all aspects of the repair and restoration of horological items. And an in-depth knowledge of a range of clock mechanisms, and how to keep them in working condition, will be key to your success.

Your organisation and prioritisation skills will be important in order to meet multiple deadlines.

With good communication skills, you're self-assured and able to liaise effectively with a broad spectrum of people on a daily basis.

You may have previous management experience, but it’s your ability to collaborate and engage with people at all levels, that we’re really looking for.

A good command of relevant IT programs will be important too, in particular to use our collection database

Perceptive, with great problem solving skills, we can rely on you to take initiative, evaluate items, and make decisions when needed.

And looking further afield, your initiative and flexible approach means you're comfortable managing a varied and reactive workload, able to adapt to the diverse needs of a working palace.

Above all, your passion for conserving horological items will be evident from your meticulous approach and high standards.

This is your opportunity to take your skills to the next level and deliver the exceptional.

We are looking for a Conservator or Senior Conservator, please specify which role you are applyng for in your application.
