About the team:

Buckingham Palace is currently undergoing a ten-year programme of works to overhaul the palace's infrastructure - including electrical cabling, plumbing and heating - for the first time since the 1950's. A dedicated in-house Programme Management Office will oversee the delivery of this project, to ensure the building is fit for purpose for the next 50 years.

Working as part of a growing specialist team, you'll be responsible for the safe movement, protection and ongoing care of objects within the Royal Collection throughout reservicing works.

Supported by Royal Collection Trust specialists, you’ll be main source of advice for all conservation needs as we progress through a number of decant projects.

From packing and storage tender specifications, to preparing rooms for reinstallation, you’ll ensure the safety of all Royal Collection objects.

Every day your expertise will be relied upon. You'll oversee and monitor the work of external contractors, providing conservation advice and guidance for both transported objects, and those in situ.

You'll also manage varied surveys and evaluations of the condition of collection items. You’ll work closely with Royal Collection Trust conservators to align plans for the relocation and treatment of objects, always ensuring an exceptional standard of care.

You'll have a degree or post-graduate qualification in collections conservation, along with significant practical experience in preventive conservation and collections care.

Being either accredited, or working towards a Conservator Restorer accreditation, you’ll be looking to expand your experience further by working with a collection of mixed, decorative art.

Your knowledge of packing and transporting art, along with a thorough understanding of environmental monitoring, will be essential. What’s more, you’ll be confident guiding those around in conservation principles to ensure the safety of collection items.

Alongside your conservational expertise, you’ll also have experience of object removal and protection projects, ideally gained within historic occupied buildings.

Your time management skills will be vital in order to prioritise multiple, and often conflicting deadlines.

Organised yet flexible in approach, you'll also be skilled at balancing strategic and practical needs. This will be important in order to plan long term project work, whilst aligning with the wider needs of a working palace effectively.

And as an excellent communicator, you’ll enjoy working alongside and engaging with people at all levels across our varied and talented team.
