c. £30,000 per annum

Buckingham Palace is currently undergoing a ten-year programme of works to overhaul the palace's infrastructure - including electrical cabling, plumbing and heating - for the first time since the 1950's. A dedicated in-house Programme Management Office will oversee the delivery of this project, to ensure the building is fit for purpose for the next 50 years.

It's conserving and protecting the future of a unique collection.

It’s the opportunity to take on new challenges. And it’s working as one to deliver impressive projects. This is what makes working for the Royal Household exceptional.

Working as part of a specialist team, you'll be responsible for the safe movement, protection and ongoing care of Royal Collection objects throughout reservicing works.

Supported by the Senior Project Conservator as well as Royal Collection Trust specialists, you’ll help scope out requirements and plan a number of decant and reinstallation projects.

Liaising closely with Royal Collection Trust conservators, you’ll align plans for conservation treatments and relocations and will lead the project plan by guiding the smooth and timely delivery of work.

The sheer diversity of the Royal Collection provides unique challenges and opportunities that will stretch you. You’ll work with objects that are being transported, as well as those remaining in situ, supervising external contractors and providing conservation advice.

Every day your expertise will be relied upon. And whether you’re moving items in time for works to begin, or preparing rooms for reinstallation, you’ll always ensure an exceptional standard of care.

And knowing that you're helping to preserve a collection that will be enjoyed by future generations will be your biggest reward.

With a relevant qualification, and practical experience of preventive conservation and collection care, you’ll be looking for a role where you can put your growing skills into practice.

Having worked with a museum or heritage collection before, you’ll be eager to expand your knowledge further, working with the diverse fine and decorative art of the Royal Collection.

Alongside your conservation skills, you’ll also have experience of object removal and protection projects, ideally gained within historic occupied buildings. That means you’ll have knowledge of planning budgets, timetables and logistics, alongside stakeholder and contractor management.

You have a good knowledge of transporting historic items, along with an understanding of environmental monitoring. What’s more, you’ll be confident guiding those around you in conservation principles.

With strong time management skills you’ll be able to meet multiple, and often conflicting deadlines. Organised yet flexible in approach, you’ll effectively balance project work alongside conservation needs and the wider operations of a working palace.

You’ll also have strong IT skills, familiar with collections management systems and good documentation practices.

And as an excellent communicator, you’ll enjoy working alongside and engaging with people at all levels across our varied and talented team.

In all that you do, you'll be passionate about maintaining the exceptional standards of conservation care for this unique collection.
